Freshman Interest Groups (FIGS)
Freshman Interest Group (FIG) Leader Role Description
Peer Leader Responsibilities :
- Lead 12-15 class meetings
- Lead whole-class and small-group activities
- Customize and implement lesson plans
- Manage course materials and coordinate external experiences
- Serve as the primary student contact and provide comprehensive feedback
Application Requirements:
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
- Complete Application (Linked under Application Timeline and Process)
- Commit to 5 hours of compensated work per week during Fall 2026.
- Commit to attend any mandatory training opportunities, offered periodically through spring, summer and fall semesters. Training dates will be provided upon selection.
- Enroll in HUM4924: Engage 100 Peer Leader Instruction Seminar in Spring 2026 and obtain a grade of B or higher. This course meets twice per week and fulfills FSU’s Oral Competency CoreFSU Requirement.
- Enroll in SDS3802: Experiential Learning – Engage 100 Leaders in Fall 2026 for 1 S/U credit. This course meets once per week and fulfills FSU’s Formative Experience CoreFSU Requirement.
Application Timeline and Process:
- Link to the application will open on this website Monday, September 22nd, and close on Sunday, October 19th.
- If selected, applicants will be invited to schedule one in-person interview on one of the following dates: 11/10, 11/12, 11/13 or 11/17.

Honors Colloquium
Honors Colloquium Leader Role Description
Peer Leader Responsibilities :
- Lead 12-15 class meetings
- Lead whole-class and small-group activities
- Customize and implement lesson plans
- Manage course materials and coordinate external experiences
- Serve as the primary student contact and provide comprehensive feedback
Application Requirements:
- Minimum 3.2 FSU GPA.
- Be a member of the FSU Honors Program in good standing
- Successfully complete Honors Colloquium by the end of Fall 2025
- Successfully complete at least one Honors Signature Course by the end of Spring 2026
- Enter 3rd or 4th year at FSU in 2026-2027 academic year (not applicable to transfer admitted honors students)
- Complete 10 Honors credits before Fall 2026 (consideration can be made for laterally admitted and lower division transfer honors student applicants entering their 3rd year)
Application Timeline and Process:
- Applicants will submit a application that includes a resume, demographic information, and one written response. Upon review, applicants will be selected to move forward to the second application phase which consists of more in-depth written responses. Final candidates will be selected for interviews and offered positions.

Freshman Music Experience (First Year Music Semester)
Board of Advisors (BOA) Facilitator Role Description
Peer Assistant Responsibilities :
- Lead 4-11 class meetings
- Lead whole-class discussions and customize course materials
- Design and implement lesson plans
- Coordinate guest speakers and field experiences
- Provide feedback on student progress and experience
- Serve as a consistent point of contact for students
Application Requirements:
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
- Be a fully trained member of BOAs: Board of Advisors in the College of Music
- Attend Spring Facilitator Interest Meeting
- Application completed and sent to Program Supervisor
- Open to 2nd Year, 3rd Year, or 4th Year students
Application Timeline and Process:
- Attendance at the Spring Facilitator Interest Meeting held for current BOAs to review the purpose and content of the course and application deadline. All interested parties are required to attend the interest meeting, including returning BOA Facilitators.
- Initial announcement for Interest Meeting date will be made in Late Fall
- After the interest meeting, students apply to be a facilitator by sending Rachel Boatwright an updated resume and a cover letter explaining why they want to facilitate the course and why they would be a good fit.
- Additional requirements are shared upon acceptance such as onboarding, training, and course materials like the Facilitator Guide, Syllabus, and Course Schedule.
- Early summer: Training (2 hours to review course content), and review facilitator schedules, Mid summer: "brush up" training & Q&A session. Partners review course content and begin lesson planning. Late summer (Summer B) course begins.
