In this project, our role is to work closely with the research team to identify the most effective ways to support students as they adjust to university life and progress through their academic careers, while also promoting positive mental health and well-being.
The Division of Undergraduate Studies is dedicated to ensuring that every undergraduate student at Florida State University receives a strong educational foundation to support long-term academic success and timely graduation. The Division oversees key state-wide and university-wide degree requirements and provides innovative programming and operational support designed to help students reach their full academic potential.
Within the Division of Undergraduate Studies, under the Office of Retention, Engage 100 has partnered in this research by requiring a Social Connection Project in all sections of First-Year Connections and Success.
Engage 100 is an immersive program unique to FSU. Courses are designed to help you shape your success and flourish in your first year. Through Engage 100, you will meet other new students, connect with a peer mentor, and discover all that university life offers. Through small 0 or 1 credit hour courses, you will learn in a supportive and creative environment sure to unlock your potential.
First-Year Connections and Success is an Engage 100 course designed to help students transition smoothly into college life at Florida State University by building strong connections across their academic life, personal development, and the campus community. Through structured discussions and activities, students explore the value of both academic and extracurricular learning experiences, learn about the many resources and people on campus who can support them, and develop strategies for thriving in and out of the classroom. By the end of the course, students have a clearer sense of their goals and how to engage meaningfully with the FSU community to achieve them.
